STOCKPORT & DISTRICT POOL LEAGUE
Inter-league Team
27th June 2000
Stockport & District Pool League, being a founder member of the county, has fielded an inter-league team within the County Association since its inception, and at one stage actually fielded three teams. The team, while being allowed to run as a semi autonomous body, are policed by the league, and the manager is always a committee member.
Membership of the team is open to all members of the league, who are willing too religiously turn out on match days (Sundays), and who can pot balls. There is a requirement to learn the World 8 Ball rules, although initially the ability to pot is paramount. The rules will be taught to you. The ideal size of the team is 12 to 15 players, and trials are held each year if required to achieve these numbers.
Matches are generally played on the last Sunday of each month, dates usually set by the English Pool Association
The current team has been together for some time, managed by Tony Bower, and holds its own within the divisions, while awaiting the opportunity to collect a trophy.
League members who are interested in playing on the team should in the first instance contact the manager (Tony Bower - 0161 494 9690) who will be only to willing to advise prospective players.
Trials will be held in February 2001, and Tony is now taking names of those who are interested.
The interleague team is available for friendly matches both within the league, and with similar teams from other leagues. Again contact Tony Bower for details.
The current team is presently made up of 13 players who are representative of the willing players in the divisions of the league.

The Latest Results (and match reports)
Stockport finished the 1999 season joint second in their division along with Trafford but were unfortunate to lose the playoff.
Nice to see the team started off the season in fine style with a win over Droylsden, but the win was a bit premature as Droylsden soon dropped out of the division.
To prevent any league or division from turning into such a joke, experience says it is much wiser to fill the divisions and then have a waiting list. It is far easier insert a new team and for that team to catch up than to revise the whole league structure.
